F/W 18 CHAPTER 02: WHERE THE CITY MEETS THE FOREST

“Y don’t you call adidas?” These words, emblazoned across pieces in the Y-3 F/W 18 collection, are a tribute to the fateful call Yohji Yamamoto made to adidas some 17 years ago. The decade and a half of collaborative collections that followed set a new benchmark for refined, evolved sportswear, and the mutual appreciation between the Japanese designer and adidas is captured in the other bold slogan that adorns many pieces in the collection: “Nice to meet you”.

Both of these slogans appear in Chapter 02, the concluding segment of Angelo Pennetta and Carlos Nazario’s vibrant F/W 18 campaign. Whereas Chapter 01 was shot in the familiar streets of the downtown L.A. area, here the photographer, stylist and cast head to the edge: where urban textures blur into forest wilderness. It’s a fitting backdrop for highlighting the autumnal hues of a statement floral print and striking block colors of burnt orange and red, all splashed across voluminous silhouettes that exaggerate the relaxed sensibility of most sportswear apparel. A series of raw, almost off-the-cuff videos accompany the images, shot on a mixture of Super8, VHS and iPhone in a way that evokes a heritage stretching back 17 years and beyond…
