Y-3 SPRING SUMMER 2019

Inspired by sailing and parachuting—not to mention Yohji Yamamoto’s career-long obsession with “air between the body”—Y-3’s Spring/Summer 2019 collection places a singular focus on lightweight, breathable, packable, technical, and functional apparel and footwear that pushes the limits of adidas innovation.

Through engineering and fabrication, adidas and Yamamoto combine the seemingly polar worlds of sport performance and high-fashion tailoring to new effect. The season’s sailing inspiration perfectly syncs with Yamamoto’s vision—a design aesthetic noted for billowing volumes and exaggerated proportions.
In the campaign, photographer Angelo Pennetta and stylist Haley Wollens capture the collection against the epic industrial backdrop of a Los Angeles shipyard. Pennetta’s casual, offhand shooting style contrasts with the grace and fluidity of the clothing, making for a cool clash. In the background of each shot, sun-bleached, rusted equipment brings focus to the campaign’s sleek, minimalistic apparel and footwear.
The looks featured serve as testament to Yamamoto’s ability to reinvent the color black. Here, he delivers voluminous cropped utility pants, one-pocket cargos, flowing nylon ripstop tech shirts, and crepe long dresses cut from loose organic cotton jersey. Tie-cord details create chic gatherings and effortless drapes across both the men’s and women’s ranges.
The Spring/Summer 2019 collection is available on January 7, 2019 at Y-3 flagship stores, Y-3.com, and select retailers worldwide.
